Our Latest Project

Merrill P. Thomas Co. has started construction on our latest project. In 2017, we purchased a battered and bruised warehouse facility as an asset. The building has over 6,000 sq/ft of warehouse and office space that will receive a makeover. #MPT will be disposing of the rusted paneling, repaving the foundation, and upgrading electrical systems which add to our project budget, but the improvements for the space will be worth the extra effort! Stay tuned for more updates as construction progress and info about new tenant.

Midtown Park Drive South

In April 2019, Merrill P. Thomas Co., along with several investors, purchased the office warehouse building at 3168 Midtown Park Drive South. The property is in the Midtown Commercial Park near Dauphin Street and I65 in Mobile, Alabama. The property consists of 7,700 square feet and sold for $390,000.

The current tenants include:

Jeff Tesney Photography, LLC
Stryker Corporation, a medical sales company
Coumanis Allen a construction company

At the time of purchase, there was 1,200 square feet of office space available for lease but this was recently leased to Narrow Road Counseling and Arise Counseling Services in June 2019. We will install a new roof.

Pratt Thomas and his wife, Sara, attended the black-tie Preview Gala that opened the 2019 Festival of Flowers benefitting the Providence Hospital Foundation on Wednesday, March 20, 2019.

Through our “Sprout Education” event sponsorship, Merrill P. Thomas Co., Inc. assisted in the education of our youth and made an important investment in the health care of area residents and in the betterment of the entire community. To further our commitment, Sara Thomas proudly served on the Festival of Flowers committee and managed the gift shop at the Festival.

About the 2019 Festival of Flowers

Recognized for over a decade as a Top 20 Event by the Southeast Tourism Society, the 2019 Festival of Flowers continued the tradition of delighting and educating visitors of all ages with over eight acres of exhibits under open sky and massive tents. The event was held March 21 – 24 and brought the enchantment of Dutch Gardens comes to Mobile. The Festival is the premier event for the Providence Hospital Foundation. Proceeds from the 2019 Festival will be used to purchase of state-of-the-art defibrillators for the Cardiac Care Unit at Providence Hospital.

The 2019 Festival of Flowers was a collaboration of the Lead Designer, Catherine Cannon Arensberg, and the works of contemporary painter, Brent Smith. The 2019 Festival showcased elegant elements of the Dutch garden with carefully choreographed displays. Today Dutch gardens are at the forefront of modern landscape design. A canal, complete with working water wheel, winds throughout the floral features, just as the canals run through Dutch capital, Amsterdam. Exquisite gardenscapes beckoned visitors to meander amongst the grandeur and enjoy the riot of color boasted by the Netherlands’ beloved tulips and other vibrant floral specimens.

GRAND OPENING of AR Workshop Mobile

A new Mobile business will give crafters and do-it-yourselfers a new place to create their own custom-made accessories, gifts, and home décor. AR Workshop Mobile, a boutique DIY shop that hosts public and private instructor-led workshops, will open on Saturday, April 27, 2019, with a grand opening launch party at 4 p.m. – 10 p.m. at its location, 6601 Airport Boulevard, next to Montego’s restaurant.

This shopping center at 6601 Airport Boulevard was originally developed in 2007. At the time, Starbucks occupied the space that is now known as Montego’s restaurant. The original developers sold the property to an investor which over-leveraged the acquisition through a Commercial Mortgage Backed Security (CMBS). The CMBS market was one of the contributing factors to the cause of the Great Recession. As a result, the property subsequently went into foreclosure. Because of Merrill P. Thomas Company, Inc.’s conservative investment principals, we were able to capitalize on the opportunity to purchase the property in 2013. Since our acquisition, the center has maintained healthy occupancy. The property is situated on Airport Boulevard on an outparcel to Providence Hospital and is adjacent to the Walmart Neighborhood Market and Community Bank.

Registration is open for the workshops and is available using the online calendar for public workshops or contact them to book a private event.

The workshops are for all skill levels an AR Workshop Mobile will provide all of the materials, tools, and instruction. Register to come by yourself, with a group, or book a private party! Most of the adult projects range from $40-$70 and the youth projects range from $40-$45. Most workshops last from 2-3 hours, depending on the project.

The Mobile shop is one of more than 100 AR Workshop locations, which feature rustic chic crafts. The business is the brainchild of founders Maureen Anders and Adria Ruff, who started their company as a blog and online shop in 2010. First look: Historic Dauphin Street structures getting $3M mixed-use makeover

Renovations of the long-vacant properties at 358 and 360 Dauphin St. directly across from Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in downtown Mobile are slated for completion – and occupancy – by the close of 2015. The $3 million revitalization project is the brainchild of Colin Ayres, chairman and chief executive officer of Ayres Lightweight Panel Systems, and the Australian businessman called the seven-year venture a true “labor of love.”

Once completed, the multi-structure development will boast an upscale restaurant or wine bar as well as professional office space on the ground levels and a total of eight high-end condominiums on the second and third floors. The completed condos – including two one-bedroom units and six two-bedroom units – will offer stunning views of the cathedral and Mobile skyline with several units boasting private rooftop patios.

“When these are finished, they’re going to be sensational. I just loved everything about this building from the get-go, and now I’m finally seeing it turn in to that something special without losing any of the history or charm that made me fall in love in the first place. It’s a truly remarkable project,” Ayres said.

Work-life balance

Inc. is actively seeking tenants for the ground-level commercial spaces, one of which Ayres envisions being a restaurant given its existing infrastructure and location. That roughly 2,500 square feet on the first floor of 360 Dauphin also boasts a sizeable, brick- and wrought iron-accented courtyard fronting Dauphin that Ayres imagines capturing overflow patrons from the future restaurant in what he already calls “Jazz Alley”. “There is no question it could attract a quality crowd and become a true asset to the city,” Ayres said.

Thomas is also seeking as many as five professional office tenants for the first floor of the adjacent 358 Dauphin, and Ayres provided a brief tour of that structure’s basement which formerly housed a piano bar and was a rumored speakeasy at one point that local lore contends was once connected to the cathedral by a tunnel.
